Kabul: Pakistani security forces conducted two raids on Monday in the volatile northwest region bordering Afghanistan, resulting in the killing of eleven militants, according to a statement from the military. Ten militants were eliminated in the first raid in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, following the fatal shooting of two Pakistani customs officials the day before. Additionally, one militant was killed in a separate raid in North Waziristan, a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban.
Such operations often target the Pakistani Taliban, known as the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP.
The TTP are a separate group but a close ally of the Afghan Taliban, which seized power in Afghanistan in 2021 and the Taliban takeover in neighboring Afghanistan has emboldened the Pakistani Taliban.
