Kabul: The Ministry of Migrants and Repatriates in Afghanistan has announced the deportation of over 900 migrants and the release of 15 Afghan prisoners from Pakistan. According to the ministry’s statement on social media, these individuals entered Afghanistan through the Torkham and Spin Boldak border crossings. The prisoners, whose terms in Pakistan ranged from three days to 18 months, have been freed. Additionally, 954 migrants have been forcibly returned and registered by the ministry, receiving support.
Three prisoners were also released from detention in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and repatriated yesterday. Furthermore, 500 migrants were expelled from Pakistan on Tuesday. This return of migrants comes amid the ongoing expulsion of over one million illegal Afghan migrants from Pakistan.
In Afghanistan, a severe humanitarian crisis is unfolding due to recent flash floods compounded by the expulsion of migrants. These floods have devastated communities, displacing thousands and worsening an already fragile situation. With infrastructure damaged and access routes blocked, delivering aid becomes increasingly difficult, leaving many without essentials like food, water, and medical help.
The forced return of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries adds complexity to an already dire scenario.
