KABUL – Turkey has announced the suspension of its visa exemption agreement with Afghanistan for holders of diplomatic passports, according to a report by Daily Sabah.
The Turkish presidential office stated that the agreement, which was approved by the Turkish government in 2008, will be suspended starting June 1.
The suspension follows a visit earlier this month by a delegation from Turkey’s General Directorate of Migration to Afghanistan. The delegation was there to discuss the issue of irregular Afghan migration to Turkey.
Turkey has been a significant destination for Afghan irregular migrants, both before and after the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
