KABUL – In a recent communication to congressional leaders, U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized that American forces are strategically positioned outside Afghanistan to counter potential terrorist threats.
The statement, released by the White House on Friday, reassures that U.S. military personnel are prepared to address dangers to the U.S. homeland and its interests emanating from within Afghanistan.
“United States military personnel remain postured outside Afghanistan to address threats to the United States homeland and United States interests that may arise from inside Afghanistan,” Biden stated in his letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate.
The announcement follows the U.S. military’s complete withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, a decision that has drawn criticism from some members of Congress. Critics argue that the withdrawal has created a security vacuum, potentially allowing terrorist organizations to regain strength.
Despite these criticisms, Biden’s message underscores a continued commitment to national security and a strategic approach to counterterrorism in the region.
