AT-KABUL: Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) on Tuesday signed agreements with the local development shuras (councils) to implement 45 uplift schemes in six different provinces.
Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Nasir Ahmad Durani, said the projects include construction and reconstruction of protection walls, dams and improvement of canalization system for irrigation purpose.
He said the projects would be implemented in Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kunar and Laghman provinces.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said the projects would cost more than Afs140 millions. Thirty-three projects are funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the remaining by Japan. The projects are aimed to improve agriculture sector in the provinces, he added.
The minister said that around 900 reconstruction and construction projects would be implemented in next 18 months. As many as 195 uplift projects have been implemented by the ministry in the past three months.
Regarding reforms in the MoRR, he said that procurement, finance and human resources departments would work under a single unified framework in order to prevent the ministry staffers from taking bribes.
The local shuras voiced pleasure over announcement of the uplift projects, and vowed to complete the projects on time.
