KABUL – In a significant diplomatic move, China’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Zhao Xing, announced that China is ready to deepen its political and economic cooperation with Afghanistan’s interim government. Calling Afghanistan a “good neighbor,” Ambassador Zhao highlighted the substantial progress in political relations between the two countries.
“China is a neighbor and friend of Afghanistan, and we have always maintained our cooperation. We have achieved very good progress in the political field,” Zhao stated, emphasizing the ongoing bilateral ties.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, echoed the sentiment, praising the mutually beneficial economic relations between China and Afghanistan. “China is an important regional economic power, and we are working to expand relations because it benefits both nations,” Mujahid added.
Political analysts are optimistic about the growing ties, with Idris Mohammadi Zazi noting that continued cooperation with China could enhance Afghanistan’s standing in the international community. “China can play a constructive role. Strengthening this relationship will reduce the gap between Afghanistan and the international community,” Zazi said.
This announcement follows the sixth Moscow Format Consultative Meeting, where regional powers, including China, Iran, and Pakistan, discussed priorities such as national reconciliation in Afghanistan, combating terrorism, and expanding regional engagement
