AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: After three days of discussion, elders from across Badakhshan province agreed to launch a public uprising against militants.
Participants of the gathering said: “A committee of influential figures should talk peace with the Taliban in Badakhshan. If the militants rejected to make peace, then we will mobilize our people against the Taliban militants.” They said that they will conduct the uprising under the framework of the Ministry of Interior. They urged the incumbent government to legalize the mining industry and bring reforms in administrative system of the province.
Abdul Wali Niazi, an MP from Badakhshan province, while briefing reporters about the gathering said that the uprising will be led by elite figures in order to prevent from harassment of people by members of the anti-Taliban uprising.
Expressing concerns over the decision, a number of residents of Badakhshan said that the uprising might backfire and create more instability in the province. “Such uprisings, if managed, can prove a good move. Otherwise, it will have bad consequences for our people,” Sher Ahmad a resident of the province told Azadi Radio.
