AT-KABUL: Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan (TEFA) expressed concerns over delay in starting work on electoral reforms.
Head of the foundation, Muhammad Naim Ayubzada, said that if the electoral reforms commission didn’t start its work on time, it will create problems for holding parliamentary elections.
He stressed that the date of the parliamentary election should be announced within 10 days and the electoral reform commission should officially begin its works.
“The reform body should officially start its work and the exact date of the parliamentary elections should be announced within 10 days, Leaders of the national unity government (NUG) will be responsible for any negative consequences as result of the delay for democracy in Afghanistan,” Radio Azadi quoted Ayubzada as saying.
It is worth mentioning that the electoral reforms commission was established by President Ashraf Ghani around two months ago. However, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afghanistan opposed with the decision of appointing Shukria Barakzai as head of the commission.
Jawed Faisal, a spokesman for the CEO, said that new head for the commission will be appointed soon. “Differences between the two leaders over appointment of head of the commission have been resolved now. We are waiting for the president to issue a decree and introduce the new head of the commission,” he added.
