AT-KABUL: Coming hard on the government for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on intelligence sharing with Pakistan, a prominent Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf said the deal will only benefit Islamabad.
“The MoU signed between the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) favors only Pakistan,” he said.
“First of all, signing of the intelligence sharing accord between NDS and ISI is not a right step and a senseless act, because the nation was not taken into confidence regarding such a biggest decision. Signing of such an accord is a national issue and it needs to be decided at national level. Secondly, this accord is providing more opportunities to Pakistan to continue its illegal interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs,” he pointed out.
Sayyaf said that based on the agreement, ISI would find a legal base under which it would continue its espionage activities. “After this ISI would continue to accelerate its destructive activities against security and stability of Afghanistan,” he added.
In the past few days, the agreement has drawn widespread criticism from the ex-officials including the former president Hamid Karzai, the parliament and analysts.
Hamid Karzai, the former chiefs of NDS, Amrullah Saleh and Assadullah Khalid, and majority of the Afghan lawmakers asked the government to revoke the agreement as it was against the national interests.
The ex-officials and legislators said that signing such MoU was giving chance to the ISI to carry out its “nefarious goals” in Afghanistan.
Members of the Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga said the agreement was meant to “sell the country to the enemy of Afghans”.
Chief of the Defense Committee of the Wolesi Jirga, Muhammad Iqbal Safi, said the other day that Afghans were stunned by the government’s decision to sign the MoU with Pakistan as ISI has killed thousands of Afghans.
