KABUL – Afghanistan launched a major international agriculture conference in Kabul on Monday, aiming to chart a course for agricultural development and self-reliance in the war-ravaged nation.
The event, titled “Afghanistan’s Green Revolution for Self-Reliance,” brings together agricultural experts, policymakers, and industrial leaders from countries including Canada, Nigeria, Thailand, India, Pakistan, Qatar, Bangladesh, Egypt, Türkiye, and Iran. Organized by Kabul University, the conference highlights the country’s urgent need for innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions.
Acting Higher Education Minister Sheikh Nidaa Mohammad Nadeem, addressing the opening session, emphasized the importance of revitalizing the agriculture sector, crippled by over four decades of conflict. “We are making concerted efforts to rebuild this sector, essential for the nation’s progress,” he said, as reported by the state-run Bakhtar News Agency.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stressed the transformative potential of collaboration. “A successful agriculture revolution requires expert guidance and positive change,” he stated, urging sustained efforts to modernize Afghanistan’s farming practices. Mujahid expressed hope that the conference would pave the way for meaningful partnerships and innovative strategies to unlock the country’s agricultural potential.
The conference serves as a critical platform for knowledge exchange and policy formulation as Afghanistan seeks to overcome decades of challenges to achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture.
