KABUL – In a decisive move to bolster regional security, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has approved a comprehensive program to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border. The announcement came during the CSTO summit, attended by leaders from Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
The “CSTO Targeted Programme on Strengthening the Tajik-Afghan Border” was formalized through a resolution signed by member states. The initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to addressing growing security challenges along the border, a region of strategic importance.
In total, 14 documents were signed at the summit, covering a range of international and regional security concerns. CSTO leaders also reviewed the bloc’s activities during the intersessional period, aiming to enhance coordination and preparedness.
Kazakhstan’s presidency of the CSTO will conclude in 2025, with Kyrgyzstan slated to take over leadership of the security alliance.
This development highlights CSTO’s pivotal role in maintaining stability across Central Asia amid escalating geopolitical tensions.
