AT Kabul: The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has asked for nearly $500 million to help Afghan refugees in 2025. This is part of a larger plan to raise $8.2 billion to support 100 million people worldwide who are affected by war, poverty, and displacement.
The IOM says it will provide important services like health care, shelter, food, and mental health support to those who need it most. This includes Afghans who have fled the country, as well as refugees from Ukraine, Syria, and other places. The group will focus on helping vulnerable people, including women, children, and the elderly.
According to the United Nations, Afghan refugees are the third-largest displaced group in the world, after Syrians and Ukrainians. Around 10.9 million Afghans are now living in other countries, forced to flee because of war, violence, and poverty.
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan, said that the displacement of Afghans is painful and called for real help for those who have left their country.
Experts say the key to stopping so many Afghans from leaving is to improve conditions inside Afghanistan. Better jobs, a stronger economy, and fairer government could help reduce the need for people to migrate.
