KABUL – Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the Deputy Political Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban, has described the United States and NATO as shared adversaries of both Afghanistan and Iran. The statement, reported by TOLOnews, was made during a public program in Kabul, where Stanikzai emphasized the need for stronger ties between the two neighboring nations in the face of mutual challenges.
“The US and the Western world, particularly NATO, may not be engaged in direct armed conflict with us, but they are waging war against us on political and economic fronts,” Stanikzai remarked. “Their behavior and policies towards the Islamic Republic of Iran are strikingly similar, reflecting a consistent hostility. As such, our enemies are common, and this reality necessitates that Afghanistan and Iran take steps to further deepen and solidify their friendly relations.”
Stanikzai’s comments come amid ongoing international scrutiny of the Taliban’s policies and governance, as well as tensions between Western powers and Iran over various political and economic issues. This shared stance, he implied, could form the foundation for enhanced cooperation between Kabul and Tehran, particularly in countering what he characterized as external interference.
