KABUL – Iran’s commercial attaché in Afghanistan, Hossein Roustaei, has highlighted a significant boost in trade relations between Tehran and Kabul, with the volume of bilateral trade witnessing an impressive 84% growth in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Speaking on Saturday, Roustaei revealed that Afghanistan imported goods worth over $3.143 billion from Iran in 2024, a sharp increase from $1.714 billion in 2023. This surge was primarily driven by Iran’s non-oil exports, which expanded by nearly 83% over the same period.
On the other hand, Afghanistan’s exports to Iran also saw substantial growth. “The value of Afghanistan’s exports to Iran reached $54 million in 2024, marking a $29 million rise compared to the $25 million recorded in 2023—an approximate 116% increase,” Roustaei said.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Customs Administration, Afghanistan has emerged as the fifth-largest destination for Iranian exports, underscoring the strengthening trade ties between the two neighboring nations.
