KABUL — Afghanistan and China marked the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with a commemorative event in Kabul on Monday.
Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, Afghanistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, highlighted the strengthening of ties since the Islamic Emirate assumed power three years ago. He reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to fostering bilateral relations and assured Chinese investors of a secure environment.
“We guarantee that Afghanistan’s soil will never pose a threat to China or its citizens,” Stanikzai said. He also urged neighboring countries to respect Afghanistan’s sovereignty and refrain from interference in its internal affairs.
Chinese Ambassador Zhao Xeng, speaking at the ceremony, reaffirmed China’s support for Afghanistan’s independent development, emphasizing friendship, mutual interest, and inclusiveness. He expressed optimism for practical cooperation, stating, “I hope the friendship between China and Afghanistan remains as enduring as lapis lazuli and as vibrant as saffron blossoms.”
China was the first country to recognize Afghanistan’s new leadership in 2021 and accept the Islamic Emirate’s ambassadorial credentials.
The two nations established diplomatic relations in 1955, marking a longstanding partnership now poised for deeper collaboration.
