KABUL – Three Afghan journalists were injured by Pakistani mortar fire on Wednesday while reporting on the closure of the Torkham border crossing, a key trade and travel route between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to a Taliban official. The journalists, including Shamshad TV reporter Hedayat Shah Hedayat, Pajhwok Afghan News cameraman Wali Mohammad Shinwari, and Hurriyat Radio journalist Azizul Hassan Nomani, were covering ongoing clashes when they were struck by shells fired from the Pakistani side.
The Torkham crossing has been closed since February 21 due to a dispute between the two neighbors, who have a history of shutting the border following violent incidents. Shinwari and Nomani were reported to be in serious condition and were taken to Nangarhar Regional Hospital for treatment. There has been no immediate comment from the Pakistani government regarding the incident.
