KABUL – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham has warned that cutting military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine would have catastrophic consequences, comparing the potential fallout to the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Graham, a senior Republican and ally of President Donald Trump, emphasized the urgent need to support Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
“If we pull the plug on Ukraine, it would be worse than Afghanistan,” Graham said. “Until we have a ceasefire, I would give Ukraine what they need in terms of intelligence and weapons to defend themselves.” He also announced plans to introduce sanctions targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors, urging Moscow to engage in peace talks.
Graham’s comments follow the Trump administration’s decision to halt military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, a move confirmed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week. While European nations are stepping up to fill the gap, analysts warn that Europe lacks the capabilities to replace U.S. intelligence support, leaving Ukraine vulnerable.
The suspension of aid has raised concerns about the future of Ukraine’s resistance against Russian forces, with Graham and other lawmakers calling for a swift reversal of the policy to prevent further destabilization in the region.
