AT Kabul: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, the leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) political party, has openly stated that Pakistan’s past actions played a significant role in the rise of terrorism. In an interview with Samaa TV, Rehman reflected on Pakistan’s role in providing refuge to millions during the Afghan-Soviet war and highlighted the consequences of those decisions.
Rehman emphasized that Pakistan’s hospitality in hosting 30 to 40 million refugees during the Afghan conflict had long-lasting implications. He acknowledged that these actions may have contributed to the emergence of militant groups and the destabilization of the region.
Turning his focus to the current situation, Rehman expressed concerns about the potential for conflict with Afghanistan. He cautioned that war would not be beneficial for either country and urged a more thoughtful approach. “Whether there is a threat of war with Afghanistan or not requires further thought,” he stated. “War would not be beneficial for either Afghanistan or Pakistan.”
Rehman called for a comprehensive strategy for peace, stressing the importance of involving all political parties in Pakistan’s decision-making process on Afghanistan. He urged that the rulers of both countries need to engage in dialogue and cooperation to avoid further escalation.
The issue of militancy along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains a contentious point. Pakistani officials have repeatedly accused Afghanistan of harboring militants responsible for attacks within Pakistan, a claim that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan continues to deny.
Rehman’s comments come at a time when tensions between the two nations remain high, and calls for peace and diplomatic engagement are growing louder. His remarks underline the need for a peaceful resolution and collaborative efforts to address the root causes of instability in the region.
