AT News – Albert P. Khorev, Russia’s ambassador to Pakistan, has stated that the Taliban’s efforts to counter armed groups are inadequate and that Afghanistan continues to face serious security and economic challenges.
In an interview with The Express Tribune, the Russian ambassador emphasized that Afghanistan’s security situation remains concerning and that the Taliban’s actions to curb terrorist groups do not appear sufficient.
He stressed that Moscow is closely monitoring developments in Afghanistan and considers ISIS the greatest threat to its national and regional security.
According to Khorev, Russia is working with regional countries and within security frameworks, including the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), to counter threats posed by armed groups.
He affirmed that Moscow would support Pakistan, Afghanistan, and other regional countries in their fight against terrorism.
The Russian diplomat noted that ISIS is strengthening its position in Afghanistan, which could pose a direct threat to neighboring countries, including Russia, China, and Central Asian states.
He underscored the need for regional cooperation to prevent the expansion of ISIS’s influence.
This comes as ISIS attacks in Afghanistan have escalated in recent months, raising concerns about the potential spread of insecurity beyond the country’s borders.
