AT-KABUL: The Civilian Protection Group (CPG), a non-governmental organization, on Sunday expressed concerns over rising numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and demanded of the government to provide facilities to the IDPs and restore security in the restive provinces.
Quoting local and international organizations, the group said that estimated 800,000 to 1000, 000 people had been displaced by the ongoing conflict and other issues.
Karima Karimi, a member of the group, said that according to the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation of Kunduz, 18,000 families had been displaced in the first two weeks of May 2015 in the province.
She said that most of the IDPs are living in unfavorable condition. “They live in tents and do not have access to proper shelters. They also have no access to clean water, food, basic healthcare service and education,” she added.
Many shelter are sub-standard as several children had lost their lives due to the cold weather, she added.
Another member of the CPG, Mohammad Nabi Tadbir, said that most of the displaced people could not return to their homes on urgent basis. “Therefore, inaccessibility to education facilities will negatively impact lives of young IDPs. Most of them will grow illiterate, and can be exploited by the militants,” he pointed out.
He said that may displaced children and aged people died, because there is no reservoir of potable water, and healthcare services are also deplorable.
The group asked the government to provide necessary facilities to the IDPs including proper shelter in the camps.
