Protestors in Kapisa call on govt to scrap intelligence deal with ISI

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: An intelligence sharing deal between National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) this month has earned severe criticism across the country.

Venting their anger, over 600 protesters took to the streets in the capital of central Kapisa province and condemned the NDS-ISI deal, asking the government to revoke it.

The protest demonstration was organized by civil society group, Rond Sabz. The protest walk started from Da Baba Ali area and culminated at the Guldan square in Mahmood Raqi.

The demonstrators chanted different slogan against Pakistan such as “Death to Pakistan,” “We don’t want any intelligence deal with Pakistan,” “Death to corrupt officials,” and “No room for Taliban return.

One of the demonstrators Taimor Shah Bashar asked the government to cancel the deal with Pakistan calling it detrimental to the interest of Afghanistan. “Pakistan had never been sincere with Afghanistan in war on terror and never would be in the future,” he said. “Poverty, unemployment and insecurity had been increasing in Afghanistan,” Bashar said, asking the government to pay attention to these problems.

In a statement the protestors not only show their anger over intelligence agreement, but also accused the National Unity Government of failing to sustain economic growth, alleviate unemployment in the country.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and the Pakistani spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been widely criticized by MPs, civil society groups and politicians.

Hamid Karzai ex-President of Afghanistan in a media statement had also called on the government to cancel the agreement. Furthermore, according to some reports, Rahmatullah Nabil, the Chief of National Directorate of Security was also not satisfied with decision taken by the government.
