AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Amidst growing insecurity in northern provinces, a senior Russian envoy has said that deteriorating security situation in Afghanistan’s north is a matter of concern for Moscow, and that the federal government is reviewing Kabul’s request for military aid from that country.
Russian ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytskiy, the other day said that terrorist groups by destabilizing northern Afghanistan want to infiltrate into Central Asian states, including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
“We are concerned about the current security situation in Afghanistan, especially in northern provinces. Terror activities from these regions can expand to the Central Asian countries,” the ambassador said.
He said Russia will support Afghanistan in curbing militancy.
The Afghan government has reportedly requested military aid from Russia, particularly in the form of ammunition and military helicopters.
