By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs of Ministry of Culture and Information (MoIC) on Monday said that young Afghans are misused in political process in the country and denied leadership role.
Speaking at a press conference here, Timor Shah Eshaqzai said that although youth progressed in different fields, but still they are denied leadership role and used just a tool in elections.
Urging relevant organizations to provide opportunities to young people for growth, he said that youth form a good vote bank in the country, but there is no slot for them in the cabinet.
He urged the youth to forge unity in their ranks and keep those at arm’s length who want to exploit them for personal benefits.
The deputy minister said that MoIC took different steps to establish youth councils in order to mobilize young Afghans and lead them toward progress. He said that lack of sufficient budget was a biggest challenge for the ministry to empower youth, especially girls. He assured that a five-year strategy would be finalized next month in this regard.
Member of the Election Watch Organization of Afghanistan (EWA), Shah Mahmood, said that youth played major role in the 2014 presidential election, but the government has not allocated any key position for them.
