AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban released nine local policemen, including their commander, who were kidnapped from Baghlan province three weeks ago. Release of the policemen was secured through mediation of tribal elders.
Commander of the group, Zahir, said that Taliban were beating them and even signed their death warrant. He blamed the government for being reluctant to work for their release.
Other released local policemen blamed a number of security officers in the province of having links with the Taliban.
“Taliban are more powerful than Afghan forces and currently most parts of the province are under the Taliban’s control,” ToloNews quoted Habibulllah, one of recently released local policemen, as saying.
Security officials in the province rejected the claims and said that release of the nine local policemen was secured due to joint efforts from tribal elders and local authorities.
Jawed Basharat, a spokesman for Baghlan police, said that security forces in the province spared no efforts to secure safe release of the nine policemen.
According to reports, Taliban militants have mounted their attacks in different parts of the northern Baghlan province recently.
