AT-KABUL: Afghanistan’s minerals and petroleum resources management advisory council held its first session on Sunday. The council is expected to cooperate with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) in better management of natural riches.
The council is comprised of representatives of state organizations, civil society, media, members of the Natural Resources Committee of Wolesi Jirga and mining experts.
Talking to a session on the occasion, the Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Daud Shah Saba, said the council will enable every Afghan to share his opinion for improvement of mining sector in the country. “I am confident that without public participation in the policy making process, it would be hard for the ministry to implement the policies,” he added.
He said that extraction of mines through standard methods can put an end to widespread poverty in Afghanistan.
According to the minister, more than 200 mines in Afghanistan have not been monitored.
Saba while briefing media on his 100-day action plan last week pledged to establish the advisory council.
