By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA) on Monday expressed concerns over staggering unemployment rate, and promised to establish a committee to address the problem.
Briefing reporters on the 100-day action plan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs said that joblessness is a serious challenge.
“Therefore, the committee after establishment will work jointly with the relevant organizations to explore all possibilities and create employment opportunities,” Nasrin Oryakhil said, adding that unemployment is one of the main factors behind poverty, which mars stability of the country.
She said that there is no database about jobless people and the market requirement, therefore, making it impossible to chalk-out comprehensive strategy and address the issue.
The minister said that a survey would be conducted to collect information about unemployed people and market capacity to draft a clear and result-oriented strategy. She said that after assessment of the market potential, the ministry would try to train manpower according to the need of market.
The minister said that many Afghans in foreign countries and at home had no certificate about the skills that they have learnt. She said the ministry would establish a “centralized database” for the educated people which they can easily access.
Speaking about pension of the retired government servants, she said the MoLSA initiated steps to simplify the process of granting pension. Details of 50,000 retired people will be entered into the computerized system, so they can receive their pension within 100 days.
Fighting corruption, reforms in the ministry, revision of rule and regulation are other major components of the ministry’s 100-day action plan that she mentioned.
