AT-KABUL: The National Security Council (NSC) has approved a new policy to suppress the Islamic State (IS), said the Presidential Palace.
Sayed Zafar Hashimi, the deputy spokesman for President Ashraf Ghani, told reporters the other day that the militant group is currently active in Farah, Nangarhar and Helmand province. “Foreigners are also among the IS fighters in Afghanistan,” he added.
He said that to suppress IS, also known as Daesh, Afghan security forces have conducted several military operations across the country.
In the meantime, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Afghanistan, Muhammad Khan, said that IS’s presence is now a reality in Afghanistan. He said that the militant group has increased its activities in the northeastern provinces of Afghanistan. He added that the Tajikistan is willing to cooperate with Afghanistan in fight against Daesh.
