Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday urged the regional countries to shed their difference and come up with consensus on how to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
Speaking at a United Nations’ ceremony on women, peace and security at the foreign ministry, the president said that terrorism was posing serious security threats to the South and Central Asia region.
Linking future of the country with the regional support, he said that fundamental changes in Afghanistan could not take place sans sincere support of the regional countries.
He asked the regional players to join hands in the fight against terrorism, because instability of a government in the region would destabilize other governments as well.
Ghani also termed the counter-terrorism efforts in Afghanistan for the benefits of the entire region. He said that alone in Kunduz province, foreign fighters of 10 different countries are fighting against Afghan security forces.
The president added that Afghans are the major victims of the war imposed on them. “Afghans had lived for 5, 000 years, defending their soil and they are ready to give sacrifices for another 5,000 years to defend their country,” he said.
He reiterated that the government would not engage in the peace process from a weak position. “No one shall think that Afghanistan will collapse,” he warned the anti-Afghanistan elements.
The president said that role of women in the peace process is very important, adding that durable peace would be ensured when the role of women in the peace process was steady not symbolic.
