AT-KABUL: Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) on Wednesday said that five drug runners were arrested in Herat and Baghlan provinces.
According to a press statement issued here, the CNP arrested the two drug traffickers after 33kg crystals (methamphetamine) was recovered from their possession in Islam Qala area in western Herat province.
The detained smugglers placed the illicit drug skillfully in fuel tank of a vehicle, which was discovered and seized by the CNP. They planned to smuggle the drug to Iran via Islam Qala Port.
Meanwhile, three public services officials were arrested with 18.5kg heroin in Pul-e-Khomri, center of northern Baghlan province. The arrested drug traffickers were carrying heroin in a governmental vehicle.
After primary interrogation, the arrested drug runners will be shifted to Kabul for further interrogation, the statement said.
