AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Members of Kunduz Provincial Council (PC) voiced their deep concerns over deteriorating security situation in the province.
They said that except for the capital city of the province and centers of five districts, the entire province is under the Taliban’s control.
Amruddin Wali, the deputy chairman of Kunduz PC, told Azadi Radio that people in the province have raised their concerns over deteriorating security situation in the province.
“Residents of the province come to our office to lodge their complaints regarding lack of shelter, and mounting insecurity,” he said, adding that local officials have turned blind eye to the issue.
He warned that if the situation prevailed, no one in the province will remain safe.
“The Taliban might even capture Kunduz city and destroy the few remaining building and roads in the province,” he said.
Wali warned that situation in the province may further deteriorate, if the government failed to take timely action. “The Taliban militants are forcing people into paying them usher and zakat. The government has given the insurgent group time to equip its fighters and get prepared for a large-scale operation in the province,” he said.
Ghulam Rabbani Rabbani, a member of Kunduz PC, said that militants are now near the city of the capital city of the province. “Though fresh troops have been sent to the province to suppress the Taliban, they are yet to clear Chahardara district from the presence of the insurgents,” he added.
