AT-KABUL: At least eight Pakistani troops have been killed in clashes with Afghan border police in Paktika province the other day, said the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the MoI, told a press conference on Wednesday that the clashes between Afghan border police and Pakistani troops erupted in Barmal district of Paktika province.
“Pakistani forces wanted to establish facilities near the Durand Line, when they were attacked by Afghan border police,” he said. Seddiqi said that one Afghan soldier was also killed during the clashes.
Deputy Governor of Paktika province, Ataullah Fazli, confirmed the incident and said that the clashes were erupted over ownership of a religious seminary (madrassa) of Haqqani network.
Border police commander in the southeastern Afghanistan, Abdul Basir Khpelwak, said that Pakistani troops wanted to establish facilities in the religious seminary, when they were attacked by Afghan security forces the other night.
