AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: A local police commander along with 14 policemen joined the Taliban militants in Faryab province, said an official source.
Abdul Qadir Qaderi, Pashtunkot district chief, said that a commander of Afghan Local Police (ALP) along with 14 other members of the ALP joined the Taliban militants in the district.
He said that the police commander was leading public uprising against the Taliban militants in Pashtunkot district.
“The policemen fled their checkpoints following an attack from the Taliban militants and then under the pretext of organizing a crackdown on the militant group the commander along with other members of the ALP joined the Taliban militants,” TOLOnews quoted Qaderi as saying.
This comes at a time that local officials recently said that the Taliban militants hove captured around 60 villages in the province. The officials said that the fighting has forced some 3,000 families to leave their houses.
