AT-KABUL: ISIS’ governor of their Khorasan province, Hafiz Saeed Khan, was among 30 militants killed in an airstrike in eastern Nangarhar province the other night, said National Directorate of Security (NDS).
The NDS in a statement issued on Saturday said that based on their information Hafez Sayeed, the leader of the ISIS in southern Asia and the subcontinent has been killed in an airstrike in Takhto dar-e-Pashee area of Achin district the other night. The statement said that at least 30 fighters of ISIS, also known as Daesh, have been killed in the strike.
ISIS, a global militant group which has captured huge swaths of land in Iraq and Syria, has dramatically increased its presence in Afghanistan. Scores of Taliban and other militants have sworn allegiance to the insurgent group.
According to reports the militant group sustained heavy casualties over the past week. At least 25 ISIS militants including, Gul Zaman the group’s second-in-command and another senior commander of Daesh Shahedullah Shahed, have been killed in an airstrike in Nangarhar recently.
The NDS recently said that they have formed a special task force to fight against ISIS fighters across the country.
