AT-KABUL: At least 69 armed Taliban fighters have been killed and 17 others wounded in different crackdowns across the country over the past 48 hours.
In a press release issued here on Monday, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that Afghan National Police (ANP) in collaboration with Afghan National Army (ANA) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Kunduz, Faryab, Kandahar, Takhar, Samangan, Oruzgan, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Paktiya, Farah and Helmand provinces. “At least 18 rebels have been killed and another wounded in the operations,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a press statement said that security forces killed 51 Taliban militants and wounded 16 others, including a foreigner, in different joint operations in various districts of Kunar, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Paktika, Paktia, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Daykundi, Kandahar, Zabul and Helmand provinces. “A commander of the Taliban was also among the killed people,” it added.
The statement said that security forces also arrested nine insurgents and handed them over to judicial organizations.
“The ANP and ANA also recovered a huge cache of weapons during the operations,” it added.
Seven Afghan army soldiers have been killed in shelling of heavy weapons in different provinces.
