AT-KABUL: Unidentified gunmen killed a senior provincial member of the High Peace Council (HPC) in Paghman district of Kabul province.
Spokesman to the Maidan Wardak governor, Attuallah Khogyani, on Tuesday identified the HPC member as Maulwi Saleh Muhammad Hottak.
He told media that the HPC member was resident of Maidan Wardak province and was killed last night by unknown men in Qalai Haider Khan area of Paghman district. He belonged to Toor Krak area of Nirkh district and severed for six years as member of the provincial peace committee.
The peace council member was on his way back to home after offering evening prayers in a local mosque when killed. According to a local news agency Hottak himself was a prayers leader of the mosque in Qalai Haider Khan.
Kabul police launched investigation into the case. However, no arrest was made, so far. No group has claimed responsibility for the assassination.
