AT-KABUL: Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs of Ministry of Information and Culture (DYA-MoIC) on Monday signed agreements with different private higher education institutes to provide concessions in fee to students who experience difficulty in paying their admission and tuition fees.
After signing the agreements, the deputy minister Kamal Sadat said that concession in fee would be provided to over 10,000 young people. He termed it a significant step for empowerment of youth in the country.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said that DYA signed agreement with 26 private higher education institutes including 16 medical colleges aimed at to support poor youth to pursue higher studies.
He said that this facility would be available in Kabul, Khost, Parwan, Laghman and Nangarhar provinces and the eligible students would be introduced by DYA to the institutes, adding that 374 students would get scholarships.
Sadat further said that at the objective to support youth, DYA would hold further such efforts in future.
Chancellor of the Azhar Higher Education Institute, Sayed Abu Bakr Motaqi, said that due to lack of facilities and other issues a large number of young people join insurgents and other extremists groups such as Daesh. “Looking at importance of youth, the relevant authorities shall provide affordable education to youth. It is education which guides people,” he said.
Representative of the Union of Medical Institutes, Abdul Hamid Rahmanzai, said that providing discount to the youth is a great opportunity. He said the families should not miss the opportunity.
The concessions range from 20 to 50 percent.
It is pertinent to mention that annually over 150,000 students graduate from high schools (12th grade) across the country. However, around 50,000 graduates succeed in getting admissions in universities while future of the remaining 100,000 remains uncertain.
