AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Spokesman to the Chief Executive Officer on Tuesday said that the Afghan government was expecting decline in violence after the first round of direct talks in Murree, Pakistan; however, there is no decrease in insurgent attacks.
Javed Faisal said that Afghan insurgents were still backed by Pakistan. He said that Islamabad has not prevented the Taliban and other militant groups from subversive activities against Afghanistan despite pledges.
The CEO’s spokesman said that Pakistani authorities vowed to stop the Taliban fighters from attacks in Afghanistan after the first round of peace talks.
Representatives of the Afghan government and Taliban held direct peace talks in Murree, which is not far from Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad.
He said that though Afghan government was sincere in the talks with insurgents, but Pakistan yet to shun the Taliban.
Javed Faisal said the government is committed to the peace parleys with the insurgents and would explore all possibilities that could guarantee durable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The spokesman said that second round of the direct talks would take place soon. However, he did not provide information about venue and exact date of the talks with Taliban.
