AT-KABUL: Chief of military operations at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) Gen. Afzal Aman on Thursday said the Afghan security forces have planned large-scale operations in different parts of the country to retake the lost areas from the Taliban.
He confirmed that some areas had fallen into the hands of the Taliban; however, claimed that the militant group could not keep control over the areas for long time. Gen. Aman said that intense fighting was underway in the areas to retake control and establish writ of the government.
Commending the security forces for ‘tremendous’ performance and capability, he said the government forces prevented 41 districts in northern and southern provinces from falling to the Taliban.
Afghan security forces carried out more than 566 operations in the past four months including night raids to defeat militants in these districts, he added.
Gen. Aman said the Taliban wanted to control highways but the security forces foiled the bid.
He also rejected reports about fall of Nawzad district in Helmand.
