AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: National Directorate of Security (NDS) will launch a probe into a video shared in social media the other day showing the Islamic State (ARE) fighters burying bombs in a hillside in eastern Afghanistan, forcing the prisoners (locals) to sit on their knees and as they knelt down the militants set off the hidden explosives.
The well-edited video is purportedly shot somewhere in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province. The video shows that the IS militants are executing ten people, including two elderly men, on charges of espionage on behalf of the Taliban in the province.
Hasib Seddiqi, spokesman for the NDS, said that presence of the group in Afghanistan is not widespread. “Our investigations into the footage are underway to find out if the video was really shot somewhere in eastern Nangarhar province and to identify those executed,” he added.
He said that it is the duty of NDS to eliminate every terrorist group that is posing threat to Afghanistan’s national interests.
However, a number of lawmakers believe that the video was shot somewhere in the tribal belt. They commended efforts of the Afghan security forces for elimination of the IS militants in Afghanistan and said that security forces should start night raids and house searches against the fighters of the militant group.
Muhammad Nawab, a member of Wolesi Jirga, said that to effectively fighting against IS, also known as Daesh, the military units that are conducting night raids should be equipped with modern weapons, NDS should be strengthened and the US should fulfill its promises, mentioned in the bilateral security agreement (BSA).
In the meantime, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that military operations against IS are in full swing in Nangarhar. “We have conducted offensives against the militant group in Hesarak, Sherzad, Khogyani districts of the province. We will not allow the militants to continue harassing Afghans,” he added.
