KABUL: Enraged protesters in northern Baghlan province on Monday blocked Kabul-north highway for traffic against what they alleged atrocities by police officer in the Dushi district.
They alleged that police official Qari Mubariz, in charge of the Kilgili locality, for torturing and extortion. Over 200 residents of the locality staged protest at around 9:00 am and blocked the important highway for all kinds of traffics.
Abdul Hakim, a protester, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Qari Mubariz extorts money from people and those who refuse straight go to jail.”
He said they conveyed their grievances to police chief but to no avail and Mubariz continued with his atrocities.
But Shamsuddin Sarhadi, the town’s administrative chief, said majority of the protesters were land grabbers and owed thousands afghanis in taxes.
The protest caused huge traffic jam and over hundreds of vehicles waiting for reopening of the road on both sides. (PAN)
