KABUL: A mammoth rally by civil society activists announced support Afghan security forces and strewed rose petals on roads in capital Kabul on Saturday amid demands for eternal peace in the country.
The rally was organized by a civil society institute Khatira Afarinan. The demonstrators carrying cages bearing message “No To War and Peace and Stability.”
Sami Daraee, a civil activist who participated in the rally told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We choose airport road because this road witnesses several suicide bombings. We want to tell the world that we want peace.”
Civil activists strewed flowers on roads to show sympathy for those died in the suicide bombing on that road, he said.
He also urged Taliban to stop carrying out suicide bombs and join peace process. “If Taliban join peace process, we will offer them flowers,” he added.
Daraee also asked Afghan security forces to put honest efforts for maintaining security situation.
Another civil society activist Baresh Sarwari said people were tired of fighting and bloodshed and they were faced with many problems.
He said that civil society activists supported Afghan forces and demanded them to be honest in their jobs and suppress those who were against peace.
The demonstrators also gifted flowers to a number of police officers.
Kabul’s 9th police district chief Col. Abdul Rauf Samangani who was gifted with a flower appreciated civil society and said that security forces could not bring complete security without the support of people.
He asked people to support Afghan forces, assess their performance and suggest what was needed for reform. (PAN)
