AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Afghanistan and Turkmenistan have signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing cooperation further in energy sector.
The Turkmen Energy Ministry said that electricity produced in the country is supplied to Afghanistan’s northern provinces on concessional terms.
The Turkmen ministry has rehabilitated the power units of Mary state power plant and laid a 500-kV power transmission line from the power plant to border with Afghanistan in order to increase the volume of electricity export.
Cooperation in energy sector was discussed by officials of the two countries recently in a meeting held in Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said that Ashgabat’s position on Afghanistan remains unchanged: his country is eager to render real assistance to Afghans in creating a peaceful and prosperous life and restoring the socio-economic infrastructure.
He said that energy sector is one of the priority areas of partnership between the two countries.
