Market for over $4 billion food is available in Afghanistan: Agriculture Minister
By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: A 7-day Afghan food product’s exhibition inaugurated in Kabul on Tuesday.
The exhibition was organized by Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) in collaboration with Afghanistan Expo Center in Shahr-e-Naw. Afghan food products and beverages were put on display in the exhibition.
Minister of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock Asadullah Zamir urged businessmen to invest in agriculture sector of Afghanistan. He said that Afghanistan currently import $4 billion food and dairy products. “This means market for over $4 food is available inside the country,” he added.
He encouraged investors to invest in food processing, agriculture sector, livestock farms and cold storage centers to steer the country toward development. “Demand is high for Afghanistan made food products and fruits in international markets,” he added.
Zamir said that Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) will strive hard to pave the ground for investors to invest in agriculture sector of the country.
The AISA Chief Qurban Haqjo said public awareness still needs to be raised about domestic products.
He said that domestic products should be supported and encouraged. People should give the domestic companies a chance to lead the country towards self sufficiency.
“To compete with foreign products, the domestic companies should focus on both quantity and quality,” he added. He said that AISA has devised new strategies to support domestic products.
Haqjo said that Afghanistan should be known for its products, rather than war and corruption.
Likewise traders who put their goods on display in the exhibition termed holding of exhibition very important to introduce their products to people.
