KABUL: Afghanistan on Saturday strongly rejected the allegation that Friday’s attack on the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base in the northwestern city of Peshawar was planned and controlled from Afghanistan.
“We vehemently reject as baseless claims that the attack in Peshawar was planned or controlled from Afghanistan,” the president’s deputy spokesman, Sayed Zafar Hashimi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Afghanistan, having suffered a great deal due to terrorism, remains as a committed to fighting against terrorist networks that threatened peace and stability in the region, he insisted.
Forty-two people, including an army captain and 13 terrorists, were killed on Friday when the Taliban stormed the base. Military spokesman Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa said the assault was planned and controlled from Afghanistan.
Separately, Pakistani media reported Islamabad would seek decisive action from Kabul against Pakistani Taliban’s sanctuaries in Afghanistan.
English-language newspaper The Express Tribune quoted an unnamed official as saying Islamabad had ‘enough evidence’ to prove that Afghan soil was used by the TTP for the attack. (PAN)
