By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) on Tuesday said that it has implemented 9,858 welfare projects across the country this year.
The Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Nasir Ahmad Durani, said that the projects have been implemented at the total cost of $232 million in the past nine months.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Durani said that the projects included construction of water supply networks, irrigation canals and roads, capacity building programs, energy generation schemes, education and healthcare services.
He said that the projects have also created a large number of jobs in rural parts of the country. “Out of $380 million allocated to uplift projects, MRRD has managed to spend $232 million (60 percent) in the past nine months,” he added. Due to negligence of the government and insecurity imbalance in development projects was observed in some provinces, particularly Pakitka, Logar and Ghazni. “We will strive hard to resolve the issue in the future,” he stressed.
Durani said that insecurity was one of the main challenges faced by the MRRD in implementation of development projects.
The MRRD has signed contract of 3,791 uplift projects to be implemented at the total cost of $113 million this year.
MoRRD as committed will remain strict and honest in brining formation and fighting corruption in the ministry, he underlined.
