Medicines donated to help injured people in Kunduz

AT-KABUL: The pharmaceutical services’ union of Afghanistan has donated five tons of medicines to Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to help injured people in Kunduz province.

Chief of the union Abdul Khaliq Zazai handed over the packages to Minister of Public Health Ferozuddin Feroz here on Tuesday.

Feroz said the medicines cost around $40,000 and includes 450 kinds of drugs which would be transferred to the central hospital of Kunduz province by tomorrow (Wednesday).

Thanking the union for the donation, he said the drugs would resolve most of the urgent health problems in the hospitals. “The central hospital in Kunduz province has been reopened. The doctors are back and providing healthcare services to injured people,” he said.

Speaking about casualties in Kunduz province, he said that more than 1,000 injured civilian, security personnel and insurgents have been registered in all hospitals of Kunduz province.

The minister said that due to continued fight between security forces and the insurgents, the authorities could not collect exact data about civilian casualties. He said the ministry would conduct a survey soon about casualties as situation in the provincial capital has returned to normal.

He said that during the battle between Taliban insurgents and Afghan security forces, residents of Kunduz had no access to drinkable water and healthcare services. “Since Kunduz city has been retaken, people have access to healthcare services now.”

Expressing concerns over condition of the displaced families, he said that people displaced from Kunduz to Takhar, Baghlan, Balkh and Kabul provinces are suffering from cold, diarrhea and mental problems.

Abdul Khaliq Zazai told newsmen that residents of Kunduz city are passing through critical condition and need support of the well-off people.

The health ministry claimed that it was ready to prevent outbreak of diarrhea in Kunduz province.

Officials on Tuesday said the security forces cleared all parts of Kunduz city from Taliban militants and fighting was underway in some districts.
