Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: The Taliban militants have torched the houses of those who fought against them in eastern and northern provinces.
Several members of the Wolesi Jirga, representing the northern provinces, told Afghanistan Times that the insurgents have set houses of all those on fire who were supporting the government and opposing the Taliban.
Houses of Mir Alam Khan, Abdullah Guard, Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, Mamoor Basher, Lieutenant Raheem, Abdul Wahab Khan, Ainullah , Lieutenant Noorullah and Mosa Farkhari were burned to the ground by the militant group in Kunduz.
Abdul Wodood Paiman, an MP from northern Kunduz province, said the Taliban have torched the houses of those who have played key role in the anti-Taliban fight in last two decades.
Habiba Danish, an MP from Takhar, said the Taliban have set homes of the rivals on fire in Khawaja Ghar district of her province. She said that the houses were burned to the ground within two hours.
“The Taliban will torch more houses if got more chances because the former mujahedeen [those who fought against the Soviet Union] stood against them. If the militants were not prevented and the security forces were not supported then the insurgents will try to kill and torch houses of the ex-jihadis,” she said.
Ms Danish said that some of the former mujahedeen were armed against the Taliban and supported by the Afghan government in some districts of Takhar province, including Darqad, Khawaja-e- Ghar, Khawaja Bahaudeen, Eshkamesh and Yangi Qala, in order to prevent Kunduz-like incident.
Nazefa Zaki, a member of the Internal Security Committee (ISC), said that based on information that she received, the Taliban have torched the houses of those who have worked in the mujahedeen government.
The Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan had released a statement recently, alleging the Taliban of committing different crimes when seized control of Kunduz.
