AT-KABUL: Foundation stone of the biggest iron melting factory laid in Kabul on Wednesday.
The mill known as “Khan Steel” will have the capacity to melt 400 tons of iron daily and will create 1,000 job opportunities.
The owner of the steel mill, Khan Muhammad, said that it is the largest factory which would need support of the government. He added that $25 million would be invested over the factory and it would start work in the next six months.
Khan Muhammad said the factory will produce 40 percent of the country’s required steel. The factory will produce 120,000 tons steel annually.
Economic Advisor to President, Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal, said that government will be ready to support the steel mill.
Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industries, Abdul Bari Rahman, said that five percent of total commercial deals are related to steel purchase. He said that annually $400-500 million is spent on iron in the country, thus, the steel factory will save the money.
