AT-KABUL: As many as 70 Taliban insurgents have been killed and dozens suffered injuries during the past two weeks of security offensive in Gereshk district of southern Helmand province, officials said on Saturday.
The governor of Gereshk district Mohammad Fahim Musazai said that 70 Taliban have been killed and dozens other injured in fight with security forces, in addition four afghan police were also killed and seven others wounded.
He said the security forces have recaptured areas from Taliban during the large-scale offensive in several districts. He added that the Taliban had planted mines in the roads which were later cleared by security forces.
The security forces moved forward and cleared the areas of Taliban. He said the Taliban presence is limited to the small town of Konjak in Gereshk district.
The offensive was launched in response to the Taliban’s attack on Gereshk where they captured some areas nonetheless the areas were later recaptured by Afghan security forces.
