Abdul Zuhoor Qayomi-KABUL: Commemorating the 8th anniversary of the 2007 Baghlan sugar factory bombing, the Wolesi Jirga (WJ) Speaker Abdul Rauf Ebrahimi asked the government to bring the perpetrators of the Baghlan bombing to justice.
At least 10 members of the Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga have been killed in bomb blasts and suicide attacks of parliament so far.
Sayed Mustafa Kazemi along with six other lawmakers was killed in a suicide bomb attack in northern Baghlan province in November, 2007. A number of school students were also killed in suicide attack.
“The government has the responsibility to protect lawmakers,” Ebrahimi said, however he called on the government to announce exact date of parliamentary and district councils’ elections as soon as possible.
Sayed Ali Kazemi, brother of Sayed Mustafa Kazemi, told the ceremony that the government has failed to bring the perpetrators of the Baghlan bombing to justice. “The former and current governments failed to arrest the perpetrators of the bombing and bring them to book,” he said.
He called on Wolesri Jirga Speaker, Rauf Ebrahimi, to assign a fact finding commission comprised of both houses to prompt the government to start investigations into the bombing and other serial killing cases.
